چکیده

We demonstrate that polaritons in an array of interacting microcavities with strong atom–photon coupling can form a two-component Bose–Hubbard model in which both polariton species are protected against spontaneous emission as their atomic part is stored in two ground states of the atoms. The parameters of the effective model can be tuned via the driving strength of external lasers and include attractive and repulsive polariton interactions. We also describe a method to measure the number statistics in one cavity for each polariton species independently. 3 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Topological Bose-Mott insulators in a one-dimensional optical superlattice.

We study topological properties of the Bose-Hubbard model with repulsive interactions in a one-dimensional optical superlattice. We find that the Mott insulator states of the single-component (two-component) Bose-Hubbard model under fractional fillings are topological insulators characterized by a nonzero charge (or spin) Chern number with nontrivial edge states. For ultracold atomic experiment...

Linköping Studies in Science and Technology, Dissertation No. 1775

This thesis is mainly concerned with theoretical studies of two types of models: quantum mechanical Bose-Hubbard models and (semi-)classical discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) models. Bose-Hubbard models have in the last few decades been widely used to describe Bose-Einstein condensates placed in periodic optical potentials, a hot research topic with promising future applications within quan...

Analysis and resolution of the ground-state degeneracy of the two-component Bose-Hubbard model.

We study the degeneracy of the ground-state energy E of the two-component Bose-Hubbard model and of the perturbative correction E(1). We show that the degeneracy properties of E and E(1) are closely related to the connectivity properties of the lattice. We determine general conditions under which E is nondegenerate. This analysis is then extended to investigate the degeneracy of E(1). In this c...

Bose condensates in interaction with excitations - a kinetic model

This paper deals with mathematical questions for Bose gases below the temperature TBEC where Bose-Einstein condensation sets in. The model considered is of two-component type, consisting of a kinetic equation for the distribution function of a gas of (quasi-)particles interacting with a Bose condensate, which is described by a Gross-Pitaevskii equation. Existence results and moment estimates ar...

Revealing the condensate and noncondensate distributions in the inhomogeneous Bose-Hubbard model

We calculate the condensate fraction and the condensate and noncondensate spatial and momentum distribution of the Bose-Hubbard model in a trap. From our results, it is evident that using approximate distributions can lead to erroneous experimental estimates of the condensate. Strong interactions cause the condensate to develop pedestal-like structures around the central peak that can be mistak...
